I can’t believe it’s March already! It already feels like spring in the south, and I’m sad to see winter go. With the turn of a new month, it’s time for a new monthly planning session.

I’ve always considered March to be a very unpredictable month. The change from winter to spring is extreme. It feels like opposing energies swirling thru the air, fighting for dominance. We could be in for warm temperate breezes – or a snow storm! In March anything goes. I’m heading off this temperamental month as best I can – with a good plan!

Here’s my March setup from start to finish. March is going to be a VERY busy month for me so I gotta get prepared. All of these pages are available as free printables!

Hello March

March drawing bulbs in vaseI love doing these intro pages. Not only are they just plain fun to draw, but they really get me in the mindset of the time period I’m entering. Keeps me motivated to keep planning ahead. Not to mention it makes my bullet journal so much more fun to flip thru!

When I sat down to think about March, the first thing that popped into my head was bulbs blooming indoors. In most places, it’s still a little too cold for flowers outside, but you feel spring in the air anyway. These bold sturdy flowers remind me that change is right around the corner.

quote Great Expectations Charles DickensI found this quote from Charles Dickens Great Expectations to be so poignant. It really expresses that crazy dual energy in the air that makes March such a crazy time to me. When I look at these pages, it makes me feel ready to meet whatever March is cooking up for me :).

March CalendarMarch drawing monthly planning

As you can see, I’m very busy this March. This clean linear style helps me see everything I’ve got scheduled at a glance. We have school events, a camping trip, and a big family wedding coming up where my 2-year-old son is the ring bearer! Though I’m somewhat concerned that my poor brother’s wedding video will feature a crazy 2-year-old running down the aisle screaming, I feel like this tux covers a multitude of sins (heart eyes).

March Tasks and Goals

calligraphy monthly planningHere I map out what I need to focus on this month, as well as the myriad of little tasks that I need to find time in my schedule for. At the top, I list my main priorities. I’ve found this really helpful in keeping me from getting distracted with all the little things that take over your day as a parent. If I’m not careful I can easily see a whole month go by without ever finding the time for those big goals. By keeping it simple and concise, I’ve got a shot at actually feeling productive come months end :).

The bottom half of the page is a general brain dump of things that are coming up and need to be addressed this month. These aren’t necessarily time-sensitive, it just helps to have a general list to reference when doing my weekly or daily planning. It’s so easy to forget when I don’t write things down! This list helps me to keep that little stuff from falling thru the cracks.

March Tracker

This is one of the most productive spreads you can have in your Bullet Journal! List the habits or tasks you want to keep track of along the side, and then mark what you did each day. This spread can really give you insight into how often you are really accomplishing what you set out to do. Once you have a clearer picture of how often you perform certain activities, it’s so much easier to set realistic goals for yourself, and gradually grow into those habits you want to make a part of your life.

Gratitude Log

This month I’m adding a new page to my planning pack: a gratitude log. You may have heard of them, they are very popular Gratitude login the Bullet Journal community. I always resisted starting one, and I’m honestly not sure why. I think I’ve been resisting the pressure of having to be cheerful at least once every single day. I’m rebellious like that. But after some extensive research into the psychology of daily journaling, I’ve decided to give the gratitude log a try.

In this spread, you write down, every day if you can, something in that day you feel grateful for. So even on your worst day, you are forced to take a step back and look on the bright side. The act of being mindfully grateful has been shown to have long-term effects on your health, your self-control, and your general satisfaction in life. Psychology Today writes “Regular practice of gratitude can change the way our brain neurons fire into more positive automatic patterns. The positive emotions we evoke can soothe distress and broaden our thinking patterns so we develop a larger and more expansive view of our lives.” Sounds good to me:). I’m ready to give this a try, I’ll let you know how it goes next month!
